Gordon Biersch Sommerbrau Kölsch

The Gordon Biersch Brewing Company has announced that its Kölsch-style Sommerbrau is available in stores now.

Kölsch translates directly to “the beer of Cologne,” in the West of Germany. This light bodied beer is fermented using the top fermenting Weihenstephan Kölsch yeast strain that Gordon Biersch co-founder Dan Gordon sources from former classmates at the Technical University of Munich, Weihenstephan, according to the company.

Sommerbrau is brewed with 80% pale-malted barley and 20% malted wheat. The bitterness of the German Tettnang hops and crisp finish make this beer ideal for warm weather, according to the company. The beer is also brewed with Hallertau hops, and made in adherence with the ‘Reinheitsgebot,’ which is the German purity law of 1516 stipulating the use of only four ingredients – water, malt, hops, and yeast.

Sommerbrau is 4.8& ABV, with 25 IBUs and 1.7% residual sugar. It will be available through July wherever Gordon Biersch products are sold. Six packs range in price between $8.99 and $9.99.
