Connecting To The Future

We are in the midst of what many people are calling “The Information Age,” a time in our social and economic development when access to all sorts of information can be translated into a wealth of different opportunities. As the pundits declare, we are just in the infancy of this age, which began in earnest only during the past decade, concurrent with the rise of the personal computer.

Even so, it’s clear by now that businesses that are tapped into the increasing flow of information are positioned to benefit from it in both the near and long term. There is no longer any doubt about the tremendous efficiencies and insights that can be gained when computerizing a retail operation, and as the software becomes more sophisticated and targeted to a specific set of circumstances, the efficiencies and profits simply increase. But that is just the beginning, for cutting-edge businesses have moved beyond their four walls to the worldwide web. Because it is so new, there are still lots of questions concerning commerce over the Internet; however, the essential question of its viability as a major tool with worldwide impact has been answered. The Internet is here to stay and its influence as a delivery system for information — and goods and services — will only increase.

We are proud to say that our parent company, Adams Business Media, has taken a leadership position with a major initiative to bring the Internet to you. And our magazines — including Beverage & Food Dynamics, Cheers, StateWays and the recently launched, consumer-lifestyle publication BeerConnoisseur — are an important part of the Adams package. By connecting to www.beveragenet.net, anyone can now access a wide menu of information, of which our current magazines are just one part. There are sections for updated news, a calendar that publicizes upcoming industry events, a bookstore section for locating publications helpful to beverage industry professionals, a reprint department and an editorial archive featuring past issues.

In addition, there are sites for subscription information, reader services, and even a page to e-mail the magazines’ editors with questions. Web site visitors can also access any of Adams Business Media’s other 13 major industry-specific networks, just to see the extent of the undertaking.

We are excited by the opportunities this presents to our readers and to us. Even at this busiest time of year for all members of our industry, it’s never too hectic to peer into the future. From our perspective, we see that Internet capabilities can only improve our business. We hope it’s the same for you.
