We Still Have A Lot To Be Thankful For

This has been a year like no other. As a nation, we’ve experienced the unthinkable and we’ll all continue to deal with the aftermath of September 11 for months and years to come.

Usually at this time of year I find myself filling this space with words about the importance of fourth-quarter business and of taking advantage of the holiday season. And while the holidays are still important this year, it’s probably for a whole new set of reasons.

Traditionally, we kick off our year-end celebrations with Thanksgiving. And despite the collective shock that we’ve experienced and the losses we’ve felt, we still have much to be thankful for this year.

We can all certainly be thankful for the generosity of spirit shown by our fellow Americans. When faced with the reality of our worst nightmare, people from all walks of life and from every part of the country responded with donations of money, blood, relief supplies and technical expertise.

We can be thankful that as a people we become stronger in the face of adversity. We can be thankful that wholesale death and destruction are not our daily experience and pray that they never are.

We can certainly be thankful that we live in a land that celebrates our similarities and our differences, a land where everyone is allowed to experience and worship God in whatever way they choose (or to not worship, if that’s their choice).

We can thankful for the little things like music, kite-flying and short skirts. And we can be thankful for the big things like the opportunity for everyone — man or woman, faithful or infidel — to get an education and live a life without fear.

And those of us in the hospitality business can be thankful for the way in which we get to make our living. The simple pleasures of food, drink and good company are what this business is all about and that’s something to be thankful for indeed.

A healthy, prosperous and peaceful holiday season and new year to all of you and all your families from all of us at the Adams Beverage Group.

Cheers,
