Anheuser-Busch InBev Buying Blue Point Brewing Company

The country’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, on Feb. 5 announced it has agreed to buy the Blue Point Brewing Company. Patchogue, NY-based Blue Point Brewing, founded 15 years ago, makes the Toasted Lager and Hoptical Illusion beers, among others.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is expected to close in the second quarter. A-B InBev brands include Budweiser and Bud Light, as well as Stella Artois and Beck’s.

Blue Point isn’t A-B InBev’s first craft beer: It had acquired Chicago-based Goose Island in 2011. The brewing giant has been expanding its reach in recent years, completing a merger with Grupo Modelo of Mexico last year, and last month it agreed to repurchase South Korean brewer Oriental Brewery–nearly five years after it sold the company to the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.
