Laphroaig has unveiled its new 27 Year Old Scotch whisky.
A limited-time addition to the distillery’s lineup, Laphroaig 27 Year Old maintains notes of the trademark Laphroaig peat smoke, tempered by flavors of limes and nectarines, the company says, giving way to hints of sea salt and mild chili spice. On the notes is ripe, pulpy tropical fruit flan, topped with chopped toasted macadamia nuts and vanilla cream.
The finish includes antique leather and green tobacco leaf.
The whisky previously rested in refill hogsheads, then transferred into first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks. Aged in Laphroaig’s Warehouse No. 1, these casks were then selected for a final maturation.
Laphroaig 27 Year Old, 41.7% ABV, comes in a white wooden box with hand-carved images of the distillery inside. The suggested retail price is $750 per 750-ml. bottle.
