Southern Tier Distilling Company has announced the release of their NYS Straight Rye.
The company starts with New York State rye, balanced with corn and malted barley. The whiskey ages for two years in open-air-seasoned Canton Spirit white oak barrels with a #4 char.
The result is a smooth butterscotch and oak flavor with a spicy, pepper nose, the company states, and a classic NY rye peppery finish.
Southern Tier NYS Straight Rye is 86 proof. The suggested retail price is $38.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
Distributing primarily in western New York through 2017, the distillery has recently expanded distribution to central and eastern parts of the state, including New York City. Plans are underway to expand distribution into Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina.
