Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry Jamaican Rum

The newest entry in the Plantation Rum portfolio is Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry.

Xaymaca Special Dry is a Jamaican-style rum, 100% pot still, like rums of the 19th century with intense Jamaican “rum funk.”

The name ‘Xaymaca’ is the name given to the island by its first inhabitants, the Arawaks. Xaymaca Special Dry is a blend of rums distilled in the old John Dore pot still at Long Pond and the Vendome pot still at Clarendon.

The nose is slightly smoky and meaty with fruity, herbal and sour notes building up, the company says. Vanilla emerges next, with cooked banana, bitter orange peel and ripe pineapple. The palate is a dry, more floral and fruity profile of rose water, soursop, pear, white grape, apricot and sugar-apple, the company reports, followed by coconut milk, balsam allspice, bread and nuts.

“With Xaymaca Special Dry, I wanted to dive into the iconic culture that is unique to Jamaican rum,” explains Plantation Rum Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel. “I wanted to work with these complex flavors of overripe exotic fruits with an almost ‘animal intensity’.”
