Few Spirits Launches Bourbon Proofed with Cold Brew Coffee

Few Spirits, a U.S. craft pioneer, has announced the release of Few Cold Cut, a bourbon brought to proof using cold brew coffee instead of water.

Few Cold Cut is bottled at 46.5% ABV (93 proof). An initial 1,000 cases will be available nationwide this month in 750-ml bottles., for a suggested retail price of $44.99-$51.99 each. It can also be purchased online through ReserveBar.com.

As this is Few-distilled bourbon cut, or proofed, with cold brew coffee — rather than blended with it — this product remains a bourbon, and is not a liqueur.

“We wondered what would happen if we swapped out some of that water for cold brew coffee,” explains Spirits Founder and Master Distiller Paul Hletko (who we recently interviewed). “The answer? Layers upon layers of flavor and nuance that’s absolute magic.”

Cold Cut begins with dark, roasted coffee on the nose followed by the familiar Few Bourbon flavors of cinnamon and clove, the company reports, backed up by corn sweetness and oak, with hints of coffee that build sip after sip. Because it is cut with cold brew rather than hot coffee, drinkers will experience a smoother taste with less astringency.

“There are a million applications for Few Cold Cut from cocktails to cooking,” Hletko adds. “I’m going to try it out in a Manhattan this Thanksgiving to see if I can counteract some of that big turkey dinner.”
