Laphroaig Introduces 16 Year Old Scotch Whisky

The classic Islay distillery Laphroaig has unveiled its latest Scotch whisky expression, Laphroaig 16 Year Old.

This whisky matured for 16 years in ex-bourbon barrels. Overtime, the whisky’s trademark smoky flavor has softened as it blends with the sweet vanilla notes from aging in American Oak, the company says.

On the nose you’ll find sweet leather and oaky spices, the company reports, with floral notes, roasted chestnuts with rich maple syrup, plus a touch of black pepper. The palate is sweet with treacle, caramel, Manuka honey and thyme, as well as wood smoke, cresote — lots of floral notes of heather and bergamot — and a chili mouthfeel. The finish is smoky and sweet, with a salted seaweed, medicinal character.
