Mullan Road Cellars Red Blend 2016

The newest release from Dennis Cakebread of Cakebread Cellars in Washington State is Mullan Road Cellars Red Blend 2016.

Cakebread is a 40-plus-year veteran of Napa Valley, where his family built Cakebread Cellars in 1973. Now in its fourth vintage, Mullan Road Cellars is Dennis’ first expedition outside of Napa.

This product is named for Lieutenant John Mullan, an American soldier, explorer and road builder who connected Montana to Washington State by road in 1860.

Mullan Road Cellars Red Blend 2016 is a Bordeaux-style blend of cabernet, merlot, cabernet franc and malbec. It has dark aromas of black cherry, cassis, vanilla bean and juniper berry, the company reports, plus deeper scents of sweet black cherry pie, blackcurrant and a touch of spice
