ProWein 2021 Canceled Due to Pandemic

ProWein 2021 will not take place because of the worldwide health crisis.

Mass distribution of Covid-19 vaccines may be imminent, but will not occur soon enough for ProWein 2021.

The leading global wine trade show announced today the cancelation of its 2021 show in Düsseldorf, Germany, originally scheduled for March 19-23.

The decision was due to Covid-related restrictions. Current infection rates, ongoing travel restrictions and legal stipulations led Messe Düsseldorf — the organizer of ProWein — to re-assess the situation. Further developments are not foreseeable, the organization says, especially in view of the decision by the German Federal and State governments on November 25, 2020, according to which trade fairs still cannot take place.

“We did not make this decision lightly; on the contrary, in intensive and close coordination with our partners and exhibitors, we very carefully examined the arguments for or against a trade fair in these dynamic pandemic times,” says Erhard Wienkamp, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf. “The decisive factor for us was primarily the interest of our exhibitors and visitors.”

The timing of the decision played an important role.

“Exhibitors can now focus their attention on the next ProWein date and gear their preparations accordingly,” Wienkamp explains. “This way, we can guarantee the planning security that is essential for successful business.”

In line with this long-term strategy, the ProWein 2022 dates have already been set: March 27-29, 2022.

This follows the cancelation of ProWein 2020 during the worldwide health crisis.

The next event in Messe Düsseldorf’s wine trade fair portfolio will be ProWine Sao Paulo from October 5-7, 2021.

ProWine China, which just ran successfully, will be renamed ProWine Shanghai next year, returning to the Shanghai New International Expo Center from November 9-11, 2021. The next ProWine Asia will also be renamed — to ProWine Hong Kong — and will take place from May 18-21, 2021.

The next ProWine Asia in Singapore will be renamed ProWine Singapore, and will not take place again until 2022, due to constraints caused by the pandemic (the original dates were March 2-5, 2021).

  1. It is a very unfortunate situation. I am working in international trade show and conference management since 1995, and we are facing the same challenges with trade shows around the world. We hope that the vaccine that is now available will allow us to return to somewhat of a trade show and industry normality. Very best wishes from the desk of The Scotch World in the USA.
