Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company has announced their newest whiskey release: Peerless Double Oak Bourbon.

Kentucky Peerless began the Double Oak line with the original intention of rescuing whiskey from a leaky barrel, the company says, losing too much quantity to the Angel’s share. When a barrel has a leak that is unrepairable, the whiskey transfers into a new charred oak barrel.

Exposing the whiskey to a second barrel helped create complexity as well as a heavy mouthfeel in this line, the company reports.

“With the amazing response to our very limited Double Oak program to date, we have decided to improve the quality and accessibility of the product,” says Master Distiller Caleb Kilburn. “Where in the past we would leave things up to chance, we are now intentionally curating barrels to become Double Oak.”

Kilburn shared his tasting notes: prominent grain, fruit and herbaceous characteristics, plus spicy oak, cinnamon, honey and leather as the more pronounced elements.

Peerless Double Oak Bourbon launches initially in select markets: Kentucky, California, Illinois, Florida and New York.

The suggested retail price is $84.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
