Politico reported Monday that Diageo, one of the 17 members of DISCUS’ board of directors, will end its membership at the end of this year. Diageo says it is turning its focus toward internal initiatives promoting areas like sustainability, diversity and responsibility. Spokesperson Lorenzo Lopez described the split as amicable and indicated Diageo will continue working with DISCUS on Responsibility.org and other industry initiatives that are of mutual interest. DISCUS has rapidly expanded its membership in recent years, bringing smaller distillers into the group and working in partnership with the American Craft Spirits Association.
