The latest release from Heaven Hill Distillery is Bernheim Original Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Wheat Whiskey, batch A223.
This is the first line extension from the brand produced by Heaven Hill at the previously named Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY.
As with other Heaven Hill products, this follows a naming convention. The “A” stands for the first release in an annual series, while the “2” represents the month of release, February. The “23” reflects the year, 2023.
A second batch of Bernheim Barrel Proof is expected to launch later this year, come falltime.
Bernheim is a “wheater” bourbon, with a mash bill of 51% wheat, 37% corn and 12% malted barley.
On the nose is oak staves and fresh bread, the distillery reports, before a palate of caramel, honey, spice, cloves and butteriness. The finish contains honey and caramel.
Aged 7 to 9 years, Bernheim Barrel Proof comes bottled at 118.8 proof. It rolls out nationally this month for a suggested retail price of $64.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
This follows the company’s recent release of Heaven Hill Heritage Collection 20-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey.
