Reflecting its Pacific Northwest home, American Single Malt whiskey pioneer Westland Distillery has introduced its new Cask Exploration Series with Beer Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey and Wine Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey.

Each are 46% ABV, and now part of the company’s core range.

“We’re delving into the vast possibilities of cask finishing with these new releases,” says master blender Shane Armstrong. “The Pacific Northwest is known for its exceptional beer, wine and whiskey. These expressions bring those delicacies together.”

Westland’s Beer Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey celebrates the Pacific Northwest’s long tradition of craft brewing by integrating scotch ale, stout, brown ale, doppelbock, saison and stock ale casks. It aged for a minimum time of eight years.

The result is a nose of dried peach, honeydew melon, eggnog cake and cocoa powder, the company reports, before a palate of vanilla pastry cream, caramel sauce and lavender green tea.

Wine Cask pays homage to the Pacific Northwest’s winemaking history by using cabernet sauvignon, syrah and Washington Red Blend casks. It aged for a minimum of five years.

The result is a nose of allspice, raspberry reduction, chocolate wafer and dried rose. On the palate is chocolate raspberry turnover, Earl Grey tea and dried strawberry.

The suggested retail price for either expression is $74.99 per 700-ml. bottle.

The Westland Cask Exploration will initially launch at the distillery and via e-commerce in August 2024, with a national rollout following in September. A new batch will be released as needed, giving consumers an opportunity to further explore the series every couple years.

Remy Cointreau purchased Westland Distillery in 2016.
