Virginia Distillery Co. has announced the debut of The Brewer’s Coalition, a new limited-edition series of American Single Malt whiskies finished in beer casks from breweries across the U.S.
The distillery kicks off this new range of whiskies with two fall releases in partnership with Goose Island Brewery, based in Chicago, IL, and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, based in Richmond, VA.
The first release in The Brewer’s Coalition finished in barrels from Goose Island’s renowned Bourbon County Stout. This whisky has aromas of brown sugar, coffee beans and honeycomb, the distillery reports, before the palate of malty chocolate, a hint of citrus, cinnamon and hazelnuts. This bottled-in-bond whisky is 100 proof, 50% ABV, and retails for a suggested price of $49.95 per 750-ml. bottle.
The second release aged in barrels that previously held Hardywood’s holiday release of Gingerbread Stout. This expression has aromas of candied lemon peel, apricot and bright ginger, the distillery reports, with a taste of walnuts, gingerbread cookies, vanilla icing and lingering baking spice. This whisky is 100 proof, 50% ABV and retails for a suggested price of $49.95 per 750-ml. bottle.
In addition to these inaugural releases, Virginia Distillery Co. has already secured an array of barrels from other breweries for future expressions in The Brewer’s Coalition range. Each upcoming release will continue to explore the combination of whisky and craft beer.
