For years, crowds have lined up at Woodford Reserve Distillery each winter for a chance to buy Woodford Reserve Double Double Oaked Bourbon. Now, for the first time, Double Double Oaked will make its national debut at retailers and select domestic military exchange stores nationwide.
Double Double Oaked originally launched as a member of the Distillery Series in 2015. The liquid is made by finishing fully mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon for an additional two years in a second, heavily toasted, lightly charred, new oak barrel (hence the name Double Double Oaked).
The extra time in the barrel is meant to create a bourbon that’s spicier than its original counterpart, which is known for a sweeter taste and finish, according to the company.
“Rare and revered, this handcrafted double-barreled bourbon has a deep richness, unlike any other American whiskey on the market,” says Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. “Resting 5-7 years in the first barrel, then up to two years in a second barrel, this liquid features extraordinary flavor notes. It is unexpected and complex.”
Bottled at 90.4 proof, this 700-ml. bottle has a suggested retail price of $199.99.
A limited quantity of Double Double Oaked is available at Woodford Reserve Distillery starting at 10 AM. ET on January 13. While supplies last, guests can purchase up to two bottles per person. It will also be available for shipping in states where it is legal (KY, ND, NE, NH, D.C. only) in the online store at shop.woodfordreserve.com and at select Kentucky retailers.
