Basil Hayden’s today announced the first new permanent extension to its whiskey portfolio: Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye.
The new expression blends a Kentucky straight rye whiskey and Canadian rye from Alberta Distillery, with a splash of California port.
Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye is best enjoyed when sipped neat, on the rocks or as the base to a modern-day twist on a Boulevardier cocktail, the company says. The rich, fruity sweetness and spice of this rye provides a firm counterbalance to the bitterness of apéritifs and other liqueurs typically found in cocktails.
At 80 proof, Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye has aromas of oak, dark berries and molasses, the company reports, followed by flavors of caramel, dried fruit and oak, with additional notes of spice. On the finish are dried fruit and a hint of sweetness and rye spice notes.
Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye follows Basil Hayden’s Rye Whiskey, the brand’s first-ever limited-edition release, which hit shelves earlier this year.
Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye is now available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $39.99 for a 750-ml. bottle.
