With World Gin Day on the horizon (June 9), Bombay Sapphire Gin has announced the appointment of Dr. Anne Brock as the global brand’s new Master Distiller.
Brock ascends to this position in a predominately male industry. She will take over the Laverstoke Mill Distillery in Hampshire, England.
Joining from Bermondsey Gin, Brock leads a team of 14 distillers in producing every single bottle of Bombay Sapphire sold around the world, working alongside the brand’s Master of Botanticals, Ivano Tunutti.
Brock will be responsible for the production and quality management of the spirit, reducing the energy used onsite, and fulfilling global demand for Bombay Gins.
“As one of the very few female Master Distillers in the gin category, and the first at Bombay Sapphire, it is interesting to note that studies have actually shown the female sense of smell being more acute, which in turn makes women’s perception of taste more enhanced,” the company says.
Educated at Oxford University, Brock achieved a PhD in Organic Chemistry from St. Catherine’s college and joins Bacardi after spending four years as lead distiller for Bermondsey Gin. A well-respected member of the gin community, Brock currently holds a position on the board of Directors at the Gin Guild, the company says, and brings her passion for the gin category to her role at the Bombay Sapphire distillery.
