Hennessy has announced the release of Master Blender’s Selection No. 4.

This is the fourth in a limited-edition series, and the latest creation from Hennessy Master Blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde.

The single-batch Cognac is the result of eaux-de-vie singled out and set aside in the Hennessy cellars specifically for the master blender’s creations, the company says. Inspiration for the release came from a winter walk in the Cantal mountains.

“When creating this blend, I was inspired by the contrast of a ‘thermal shock,’” says Renaud Fillioux de Gironde. “Going from feeling one’s smallness in such a wide open space to being inside, passing from daylight to the darkness of night, from solitude of the forest, being completely exposed to the elements in nature, to an environment of complete comfort and cozy abandon surrounded by friends.”

As his second single-batched creation, this new blend differences itself from earlier editions with a marked freshness and delicate side, the company says. It’s made with eaux-de-vie at least five years old, aged in young French red oak barrels. On the nose is fresh apricot, candied orange peel and hints of fruity spices.

Hennessy Master Blender’s Selection No. 4 is bottled at 43% ABV. It is available now at retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

This follows recent news of Moët Hennessy acquiring stakes in WhistlePig Rye Whiskey and Jay-Z’s Armand de Brignac.
