The 14th annual Octomore series features three heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky expressions from Bruichladdich Distillery Company Lmtd.
Producing some of the world’s most heavily peated single malt Scotch whiskies, each Octomore expression is distilled from 100% Scottish barley, matured for five years and bottled close to cask strength.
The 2023 lineup includes:
- Octomore 14.1 – Malted to 128.9 PPM, the single malt has spent its maturation life in first fill ex-American whiskey casks, with this subtle oak influence allowing the raw character of the spirit to come through, the company says. Vanilla and sweet caramel on the nose compliment hints of citrus that cut through peat smoke on the palette. The suggested retail price is $219.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
- Octomore 14.2 – Malted to the same 128.9 PPM, the difference between .1 and .2 is cask type: 14.2 is matured in a combination of Oloroso and Amarone casks. Octomore’s peat smoke pairs well with sherry, with the influence of the Oloroso casks adding a robust, savory flavor to the final spirit, the company says. Distillery-provided tasting notes: red currents, rich fruit cake and roasted coffee, all wrapped in smoldering peat smoke. SRP: $259.99.
- Octomore 14.3 – Distilled from 100% Concerto Islay barley grown at the Octomore farm, 14.3 explores the influence of terroir on final flavor. Malted to 214.2 PPM, the spirit has matured in a combination of ex-American and ex-European oak casks. Company-provided tasting notes: sweet vanilla, toffee and earthy smoke. SRP: $299.99.
